YouTuber and Bhojpuri actor Dilip Kumar Sahu has been arrested by the Dahisar Cyber Police for allegedly cheating a Mumbaikar of over Rs 3.5 lakh under the pretext of providing cash in exchange for credit card swipes with minimal commission.
The 41-year-old actor was held from Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi and brought to Mumbai on transit remand on June 28. According to a report in Midday, he has been remanded to police custody until July 1. Sahu has committed similar frauds in Kandivali, Goregaon, and other parts of the city, a probe revealed. Complaints have also been filed against him in Kaushambi.
Why was Sahu arrested?
A 44-year-old driver with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), residing in Borivali, was allegedly duped of Rs 3.5 lakh after he fell for a fraudulent cash-on-credit-card scheme. The scam came to light after the victim lodged a complaint with the Dahisar Cyber Cell.
According to the victim, the fraud began in May, 2025, while he was commuting to work at the Poisar Depot in Kandivali. He noticed a poster that read "Credit Card Se Cash Lijiye" along with a mobile number, which he saved.
On May 13, the victim contacted the number and spoke to a man who identified himself as Dilip Kumar Sahu, who allegedly offered to provide cash in exchange for a credit card swipe, charging only a 2.5 per cent commission. Trusting the offer, the victim shared his credit card details, including CVV and OTP, over WhatsApp. Shortly after, he received Rs 19,500 via Google Pay, following a deduction of Rs 500 from a Rs 20,000 transaction.
Encouraged by the successful transaction, the victim reached out again on May 16 and requested Rs 3.5 lakh. He shared the details of two of his credit cards along with the OTPs received. This time, Rs 3,50,020 was debited across multiple transactions, but no money was transferred to his account.
Sahu assured the victim that the amount would be deposited into his savings account, something that never happened, a Dahisar police officer confirmed.
Realising he had been cheated, the victim first reported the matter on the national cybercrime portal and then approached the local police. Under the supervision of senior officials in Zone 12, API Ankush Dandge and constable Shrikant Deshpande traced the accused to Kaushambi and arrested him.
