Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt was all set to make her grand debut at the prestigious 78th Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to take place at the French Riviera from May 13 to May 24, 2025, marking a global celebration of cinema, fashion, and art. She was set to walk the red carpet for the first time this year as the global brand ambassador of L'Oreal Paris.
Despite being set for her Cannes debut, the Student of the Year actress has decided to skip the event this year, given the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. According to a report in Mid-Day, a source shared, "As the L'Oreal ambassador, Alia was supposed to make her Cannes debut. She was slated to attend the grand opening ceremony tonight, for which she had to fly over the weekend."

"But in the current times of geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan, she wanted to express solidarity with the country and decided against going," the report added.
Other celebrities, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Sharmila Tagore, Nitanshi Goel, Vishal Jethwa, Urvashi Rautela, Payal Kapadia, Neeraj Gahwyn, Shalini Passi, and Jacqueline Fernandez, are expected to attend Cannes 2025.
On Tuesday, Alia penned an emotional post for Indian armed forces lauding their bravery amid heightened military conflict between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor.
"There's a certain stillness in the air when a nation holds its breath. And over the past few days we've felt that stillness. That quiet anxiety. That pulse of tension that hums beneath every conversation, behind every news notification, around every dinner table," the actress wrote.
Alia further said while paying a tribute to "mothers who raised heroes".
On the work front, Alia was last seen in Jigra alongside Vedang Raina in the lead. However, the film did not perform well at the box office.
Next, the 32-year-old actress has Alpha and Love & War.
