In a major development in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Delhi University (DU) has formally introduced an early exit option for students in its Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). For the first time ever, students who have completed three years (six semesters) of the programme successfully can opt for early graduation with a legitimate degree.

The announcement comes as DU students prepare to enter the final year of the four-year UG curriculum, implemented in accordance with NEP. It was only last month that the Academic Council had sanctioned the seventh and eighth semester curriculum, clearing the way for the complete roll-out of the new pattern.

Who Is Eligible for Early Exit

As per the official notice released by the Registrar, applicants fulfilling the following requirements are eligible to choose the exit route:

- Must be studying in the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 under the NEP 2020.

- Must have successfully completed six semesters (three years of academics).

Will be granted:

- A three-year degree for multi-core discipline programmes.

- An Honours degree for single core discipline programmes.

Application Process and University Advisory

Students who are eligible are required to provide their intention to leave through the official university website. The university has reiterated that this program furthers NEP 2020's emphasis on flexibility by giving students more control over their academic experience.

Guidance Nurtured Before Leaving

Though the new option empowers students, university officials have also asked students to seek guidance from faculty, teachers, or mentors prior to a final choice. DU suggests a crucial analysis of academic and career objectives to assure the exit choice contributes to ultimate success.
