Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): After losing hefty cash in online gaming, a BAMS student attempted to loot a bank to repay his dues in Bhopal on Saturday. The naïve barged into Dhanlaxmi Bank, located in the Piplani area, with a masked face and a bottle of chilli spray!

His plan to throw bank staff into a panic failed. After attacking a bank employee and a customer with chilli spray, he himself got frightened and ran away.

He was arrested within a few hours!

After the failed attempt, he confessed to having planned the loot from YouTube videos. Police seized the chilli spray and an air pistol from the accused, both of which were ordered online.

An FIR has been registered against the accused on a complaint of bank staff, and he was being questioned further, police officials said. CCTV footage from the scene of the crime has gone viral and has left netizens laughing.

According to information, the accused has been identified as 24-year-old Sanjay Kumar, a native of Ujjain. Kumar had been pursuing BAMS from a private college in the city. According to sources, an employee at Dhanlaxmi Bank, Manmohan K, informed police that a youth wearing a helmet and mask approached them on Friday and presented a rent agreement for opening a bank account. He was refused, and he left.

The same youth returned to the bank at around 4 pm and sprayed chilli powder on the bank staff sitting next to the main entrance. The youth moved towards the cash counter while spraying chilli powder on the other bank staff. However, the youth panicked when the bank employees stood up from their seats to nab him. He went out of the bank and fled on his bike.

Using the CCTV footage, the police were able to crack the case within a couple of hours. The accused had been apprehended, and a round of interrogation began.

Police Interrogation

Police interrogation from Sanjay Kumar revealed that he was pursuing BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) from a college in Bhopal. Sanjay was addicted to online gaming. He borrowed cash from friends and even used the fee to play and earn cash through online gaming but lost over Rs 2 lakh. Sanjay planned to loot a bank and searched YouTube for planning the crime and got the idea to use chilli powder on bank employees. Sanjay searched a bank with no security guard to commit the crime.

Air Pistol Seized 

Police team was shocked when they also seized an air pistol from Sanjay’s room. Questioning revealed that he ordered the air pistol and the chilli powder online. Police officials said that he was being questioned further to ascertain his involvement in other criminal activities.
