Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A 14-year-old Class 7 girl staged her own kidnapping after being scolded by her mother and grandmother for using a mobile phone and wearing lipstick in Jabalpur, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on June 28, when the girl went missing after writing a fake ransom letter with her own hands.

In the letter, she demanded ₹15 lakh within 15 days and mentioned that the money should be left near Kher Mai Temple in a bag.

She also wrote that if the police were informed, her body would be found in pieces.

The family, worried by the letter, informed the police. During investigation, the girl was found in Jabalpur’s Sadar area, where she had been trying to rent a house after leaving home in an auto-rickshaw.

During questioning, the girl told police that she was upset because her mother and grandmother often scolded her over small things. She had been living with her mother at her grandmother’s house ever since her mother left her father 15 years ago.

The girl wrote the ransom note herself in an attempt to make it look like a real kidnapping and left home to escape the daily scolding from her mother and grandmother. She had planned the entire act to avoid restrictions at home.

Police later traced and safely brought her back from Jabalpur, and they are now counseling both the girl and her family to prevent such incidents in the future.
