Morena (Madhya Pradesh): The district court sentenced a 24-year-old youth to life imprisonment on Tuesday for brutally murdering his father after being denied money to buy weed.

According to reports, the incident took place on May 16, 2024 when the accused identified as Sudhanshu Jatav, a drug addict for last 2 years, asked his father for ₹100 to buy 'Ganja' (Weed). His father scolded him and refused to give him money.

Enraged by the refusal, the youth branded his father with a hot iron. Further, he attacked his father with a cricket bat on his head.

According to police information, Sudhanshu also attacked his mother with a stick. She sustained serious injuries as well. In this attack, the father died on the spot, while the mother somehow saved her life and ran away.

The elder brother Tarun was not at home at the time of the incident. On receiving the information, he reached and took his father to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Three days before the murder, Ravi Pratap Jatav had taken Sudhanshu to Gwalior Mental Hospital. The doctors had advised to admit him, but on the advice of some people, he was brought home.

On behalf of the prosecution, Additional Public Prosecutors Sandeep Mishra and Indra Singh Gurjar argued that it is dangerous for such a person to be out in the society.

The court agreed with this and sentenced Sudhanshu to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹1000 in the case of murder of his father and 5 years imprisonment and a fine of ₹500 in the case of murderous attack on his mother.

After the murder, Sudhanshu was arrested by the police from the spot itself. During interrogation, he had said that I have no regrets. The court also took cognizance of this attitude and gave a severe punishment.
