Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday transferred more than ₹235 crores into accounts of 94, 234 class 12 students who secured 75% or more in their board examinations to buy laptops.
Advanced laptops of the same value will be given from next year instead of incentive amount, said Yadav addressing the programme organised at Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre here on Friday.
Currently, under the Meritorious Student Promotion Scheme, every meritorious student receives ₹25,000 to purchase a laptop. The amount is transferred into the bank accounts of the students.
CM said that the meritorious students who have received the amount constitute 60% girls and 40 % boys. “our daughters are overcoming challenges and excelling in every field,” said the CM, lauding the girl students.
More than 4.32 lakh meritorious students have so far benefited from this scheme since its launch 15 years ago, with the state spent ₹1080 crore under the scheme during this period, he said
The state government is focusing on quality education in government schools and it was as a result of this that their result in board exams was 52% and private school 48%, said Yadav.
During the launch of the scheme in 2009, percentage criterion was 85% and laptop sum was given to only 500 students.
Even the state government is bearing the cost of engineering and medical education of the talented students, said the chief minister adding that the entire course annual fee comes around Rs 80 lakh. He exhorted students to do well in studies but at the same time, they should also love their home state as well.
