Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is grappling with its second intense cold wave this January as icy winds from the north have caused a 2-3°C drop in day and night temperatures across major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain.

The Meteorological Department has predicted severe cold conditions to prevail for the next three days. Starting January 10, cloudy skies and light drizzles are expected, with the possibility of scattered rain on January 12.

A western disturbance over North India has intensified cold winds across Madhya Pradesh. On Tuesday, jet streams at an altitude of 12.5 kilometers moved at a speed of 250 km/h, significantly influencing the weather.

Northern Winds Lower Day and Night Temperatures

Northern winds have caused significant drops in day and night temperatures. On Tuesday, Bhopal recorded a daytime temperature of 21.4°C, plummeting 6.4°C in a single day. Gwalior, the coldest among major cities, recorded 18.4°C.

Key Weather Highlights for the Week

January 8-10: Cold winds and dense fog will affect half the state, with severe cold waves sweeping districts in Gwalior-Chambal and Sagar divisions.

January 10: Light rain is likely in Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, and Chhatarpur.

January 11: Light rainfall could extend to Gwalior, Morena, Sheopur, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Panna, Satna, and Rewa.

January 12: Scattered rainfall may occur in several cities as the western disturbance becomes more active.

Extended Cold Wave Expected

With melting snow from Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh, the cold is expected to intensify further. The Meteorological Department predicts cold wave conditions to persist throughout January, with 20-22 days of chilly weather.

Residents are advised to stay warm, avoid unnecessary travel during dense fog, and prepare for continued cold conditions.
