Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is bracing for another spell of intense cold as temperatures are set to drop significantly from January 7 onwards. The Meteorological Department has forecasted a 2 to 3°C dip in both day and night temperatures.

Adding to the chill, cold wave conditions are likely to sweep through parts of the state, while dense fog will persist for the next two days in regions such as Gwalior, Chambal, and Rewa divisions. Light rain is also expected in select districts from January 12.

Impact of Northern Snowfall on Madhya Pradesh Weather

The chilly winds blowing into Madhya Pradesh are a result of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh. On Monday, jet streams at an altitude of 12.6 kilometers were recorded traveling at a speed of 204 km/h. This northern snow will soon begin to melt, further intensifying the speed of cold winds and worsening the cold conditions in the state.

Meteorologists have predicted that the month of January will remain cold, with 20 to 22 days of cold wave conditions expected.

Temperature Trends: Chilly Nights in Multiple Districts

The coldest spot in the state was Chhatarpur's Nowgaon, where the mercury dipped to 8.5°C on Sunday night. Mandla recorded 8.8°C, Tikamgarh 9°C, and other locations such as Guna, Malajkhand, and Shivpuri hovered around 9.3°C. Major cities reported the following temperatures:

Bhopal: 10°C

Indore: 13.1°C

Gwalior: 9.7°C

Jabalpur and Ujjain: 12°C

Hill stations and wildlife reserves such as Pachmarhi and Khajuraho also recorded sub-12°C temperatures, while many smaller towns and districts in eastern Madhya Pradesh faced similar chilly conditions.
