Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 28-year-old man was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the Chhola Mandir area of Bhopal on Thursday night. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

The deceased, identified as Rakesh Shakya, son of Prakash Shakya, lived with his wife and two children in a rented ground-floor room in Shiv Shakti Nagar.

His body was discovered in an empty room on the third floor of the same building.

According to police, a noose made from his wife’s sari was still tied around his neck, and it is believed the rope broke, causing his body to fall to the ground.

Rakesh, originally from Vidisha district, had moved to Bhopal about eight months ago in search of work and was employed as a labourer to support his family.

Police said that around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Rakesh told his wife he was going to the terrace while she prepared dinner. When she later called him to eat, there was no response. Upon going to the terrace, she found him lying on the ground with the noose still around his neck.

The exact circumstances of his death will be known only after the autopsy report, police said.

Further details are awaited.
