This mix of two seasons in one state has made May 2025 an unusual and unpredictable month in Madhya Pradesh.
Since the start of the month, several districts have seen frequent rain, hail, and gusty winds. On Wednesday, this trend continued with more showers and storms, and similar conditions are expected to remain over the next few days.
According to the Meteorological Department, an orange alert for thunderstorms with winds up to 60 km/h has been issued for cities like Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Rewa, Satna, Shahdol, Singrauli, and many more.
Experts say a trough (low-pressure line) is passing over Madhya Pradesh, along with an active cyclonic circulation. These systems are causing the state’s unusual mix of stormy and wet conditions, even during the peak summer season.
Meanwhile, cities like Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Tikamgarh, Niwari, and Chhatarpur are facing severe heat. Dry winds and high temperatures have led to a heatwave alert in these areas.
The hottest locations may include Khajuraho, Nowgong, and Prithvipur, where the temperature could reach 48°C. Gwalior may record 46–47°C, and Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur may see highs of 44–45°C.
