Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Opposition Congress has attacked the state government on poor law and order situation in the state.
The leader of opposition (LoP) asked the government regarding a BJP minister’s connection with drug mafia ‘Machhli’, during call attention in the assembly here on Thursday.
Dissatisfied with the minister’s reply, Congress MLAs gathered at the well and raised slogans against the government and later staged walkout.
Recently, police have arrested members of the Machhli family and other associates in Bhopal for their alleged involvement in extortion, rape, drug peddling and other crimes. It was also claimed that these people are members of the BJP and have good connection with the minister.
LoP Umang Singhar, while referring to the ₹ 1800 crore drug case caught by Gujarat police, said that smugglers like Shariq Machhli, Sharif Machhli are now making headlines in the state and the government is engaged in letting them off. This shows that the drug mafia has the protection of the government.

He claimed that crime incidents in remote and rural areas are increasing continuously where media has no access and prompt action is not taken. The government is trying to suppress statistics by classifying crimes, while the ground reality is that more than 21k girls and women are reported missing in the state.
The issue of FIR against MLA Sena Patel’s son was also raised in the house. However, minister of state Narendra Patel in his reply said that the state government had controlled organised crime and till now not a single communal riot had taken place in the last one-and-half year.
He said that the police under Operation Muskan, have rescued and sent 7,615 minor girls to their homes in the last six months. He added that there has been a 7.09% drop in murder cases in the state from 2023-2024 and a 23.54% drop from 2024-2025. There has been an 8.32% reduction in attempt to murder cases in the year 2023-2024 and a 64.41 per cent drop in the year 2024-2025.
