Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): State has been experiencing a break from heavy rainfall for the past seven days, with no district receiving significant rain.
The dry weather has led to a rise in temperatures, with over 10 districts recording day temperatures above 34°C on Thursday.
Similar conditions are expected on Friday, with no heavy rain alert issued anywhere in the state.
According to the Meteorological Department, the state has received 28.7 inches of rain so far this monsoon — about 77% of the season’s quota. Due to strong weather systems in June and July, rainfall has been 37% above average. The eastern parts, including Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, and Shahdol divisions, are in good condition in terms of rain.
However, Indore and Ujjain divisions have seen below-average rainfall. In Indore division, five out of eight districts have recorded less than 13 inches of rain, while only Alirajpur and Jhabua have crossed the 20-inch mark.
On the other hand, Gwalior has already received 35 inches, fulfilling its seasonal target. Jabalpur and Bhopal are also doing well in terms of rainfall.
Senior meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran said that a trough line system is currently far from Madhya Pradesh, which is why there is no significant rain. This dry spell is likely to continue for the next four days, with only light drizzle in some areas.
From June 1 to July 31, the state received an average of 28 inches of rain, but between August 1 and 7, only 0.7 inches were recorded. No rain was reported in the past 24 hours.
Weather experts predict that heavy rain will return in the second week of August and continue until the end of the month, helping the state meet its seasonal rainfall quota.
While Gwalior and eight other districts have already reached their targets, Indore and Ujjain divisions still need more rain. Overall, eastern Madhya Pradesh has received 41% above-average rainfall, while the western part has seen 33% more than normal.
