Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): More than 11 days after the sensational arrest of MD drug peddlers Yaseen and his nephew Shahwar, cops are yet to arrest or even officially name any of the high-profile individuals allegedly involved in buying drugs from their network, despite recovery of critical evidence including call records, WhatsApp chats and direct confessions by the accused.
Shocking revelations came to the fore during Yaseen and Shahwar’s interrogation. The duo disclosed how they supplied MD drugs to gyms and clinics, marketing them as fitness boosters and medication for depression.
They admitted that Bhopal’s elite pubs and clubs were venues for regular drug parties and hinted at the involvement of a few doctors and gym operators who acted as key conduits in expanding the network. Moreover, police found evidence that they made young girls addicted to drugs, sexually exploit them and even used them as carriers.
While the arrests initially began as a major crackdown on city’s drug syndicate, police action since then has appeared selective and cautious. Apart from Yaseen and Shahwar, police have arrested their associates linked to drugs and firearm syndicate. Police claimed to have identified three others, including a doctor Rahim Malik and gym trainer Mohsin Khan, but all are currently absconding.
Strikingly, several individuals whose names emerged from Yaseen’s mobile data, many of them known to have prior run-ins with drug cases were merely called for questioning and let off.
No FIRs were filed and no follow-up action was taken. Police officials said that many suspects whose names surfaced during investigations are on police radar. They will soon be questioned in connection with the case, officials added.
Chain of arrests
The crackdown began in February 2025, when police arrested 20-year-old Sameeruddin and 23-year-old Sohel Khan with MD drugs. Their interrogation led to the name of Saifuddin, a key supplier. Police placed Rs 5k reward on Saifuddin’s arrest.
On July 18, Saifuddin was caught along with another peddler, Shahrukh Hasan. Their statements pointed directly to Yaseen and Shahwar, who were arrested in a raid on the night of July 21 and 22. During the raid, police recovered incriminating evidence from Yaseen’s mobile, including contacts, chats and transaction records.
Despite such a strong evidence trail, many of the big names mentioned in these chats have neither been arrested nor publicly named.
