Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a shocking case, an elderly man was allegedly tortured by his son and daughter-in-law in a bid to grab property. The victim, 55-year-old Gaurshankar Parashar, originally from Gangaraj in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, works in private sector and resides in Shivlok Phase-4, Khajuri Kalan with his son Pranav Parashar and daughter-in-law Rani.
A case has been registered against the son and daughter-in-law at Piplani police station on the complaint of the victim.
In his complaint, Gaurishankar said that following the death of his wife in January 2024, his son and daughter-in-law allegedly began pressurising him to transfer all his property into their names.
When he refused, they reportedly held him captive in the house and assaulted him repeatedly. During this time, they allegedly stole his late wife’s jewellery, pawned it, and also withdrew money from his and his wife’s bank accounts without his consent.
Adding to trauma, his daughter-in-law allegedly threatened to falsely implicate him in criminal cases and have him jailed if he didn’t comply with their demands. The victim endured continuous abuse until May 2025, after which he managed to escape and return to his ancestral village in Rajasthan.
Piplani police station incharge Chandrika Yadav confirmed registering the case and said further inquiry was underway. He said Gaurshankar lodged a formal complaint with Gangaraj police who registered a zero FIR and forwarded the case to Bhopal.
