Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Jabalpur bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, on Tuesday, instructed the disposal of 30 MT of Union Carbide Corporation (UCC) waste in batches. The trial run will be started from February 27 in batches with the objective of getting a feed rate.
As much as 135 kg of waste will be destroyed per hour in phase-1. In the second phase, 180 kg of waste will be destroyed per hour, and in the third phase, 270 kg of waste will be disposed per hour.
The next hearing was scheduled on March 27.
During the hearing, HC was informed that the Ramkey Pithampur facility is facing several violations under the Water Prevention Act.

Earlier, the state government submitted its report as it was given a six-week time frame on January 6 to refute 'myths' in the backdrop of public outcry over incineration.
Following which, the state government held awareness camps in Pitampur and clarified doubts of the residents, businessmen, and industrialists on air as well as water pollution.
UCC 337 MT chemical waste was transported to Pithampur on January1,2025, which led intense protest at Pithampur over incineration of chemical waste.
According to Bhopal gas tragedy survivors, MPPCB had issued a show cause notice to the REEL, Pithampur, for several violations of the Water Protection Act, 1974. They addressed media persons in Bhopal on Monday.
They have also advised the government to make arrangements for transport of the hazardous waste to the USA as was done with the waste from the Unilever thermometer plant in Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu in 2003.
Bhopal Gas Information and Action (BGIA) convener Rachna Dhingra said, “In today's hearing, the high court has ordered the government for the trial run in batches. It will be started from February 27. The government has submitted its reports about the outcome of the six weeks time given by the HC for confidence building."
