According to information, the truck, which was coming from Chandigarh and going to Raipur, met with an accident after a cow suddenly came onto the road.
To avoid hitting the animal, the driver applied sudden brakes, causing the truck to lose control and overturn due to the heavy load.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in the Mirganj area of Jabalpur’s Bhedaghat police station limits.
The incident happened around 11 PM. Soon after the accident, a large number of villagers from nearby areas gathered at the spot. However, instead of helping the injured driver and conductor, the crowd started looting the apple crates scattered on the road. Many passersby also stopped their vehicles, picked up apple boxes, and left the scene.
Eyewitnesses said that the truck was carrying over 900 crates of apples, which were thrown all over the road. People took advantage of the chaos and began grabbing the fruits without any concern for the injured.
After receiving information, Bhedaghat police, led by station in-charge Kamlesh Chauria, arrived at the scene.
Both, driver and conductor were later taken to the hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the matter and trying to identify those involved in the looting.
