Shravan 2025: Ujjain's 4th Mahakal Sawari To Feature Madhya Pradesh Tourism Themes

The theme of this year’s procession will highlight major tourist destinations of Madhya Pradesh. Folk and tribal artists in colorful attire will perform traditional dances during the event.

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The fourth traditional Shravan procession from the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple will be held on Monday, August 4. This time, along with Lord Mahakal's palanquin, an idol of Lord Uma-Mahesh will be added, placed on a Nandi chariot.

The procession will begin at 4 pm from the Mahakal Temple. Lord Chandramouleshwar will ride in a palanquin, Lord Manmahesh will be on an elephant, and Lord Shiv-Tandav will ride a Garuda chariot. 

Theme 2025: Major tourist destinations

The theme of this year’s procession will highlight major tourist destinations of Madhya Pradesh. Folk and tribal artists in colorful attire will perform traditional dances during the event.

Wildlife Tourism: Kanha, Pench, Ratapani, and Panna Tiger Reserves

Religious Tourism: Sandipani Ashram in Ujjain and Ektam Dham in Omkareshwar

Historical Sites: Forts of Gwalior and Chanderi, and the temples of Khajuraho

Rural Tourism: Homestays and temples of Orchha

The grand procession aims to celebrate not only faith but also the rich cultural and tourism heritage of Madhya Pradesh.

After special prayers and rituals inside the temple, the palanquin will set off for a city tour. Outside the temple, police personnel will offer a ceremonial salute to the Lord.

The procession will include police, Home Guards, devotional music groups, players, and a police band.

Traditional route 

The route will pass through Mahakal Square, Gudri Square, Bakshi Bazaar, and Kaharwadi, finally reaching Ramghat. There, the idols will be given a ceremonial bath with water from the holy Shipra River.

From Ramghat, the procession will move through Ramanujkot, Modh Ki Dharamshala, Kartik Chowk, Satyanarayan Temple, Dhaba Road, Tanki Square, Chhatri Chowk, Gopal Temple, Patni Bazaar, and Gudri Bazaar, before returning to the Mahakal Temple.

As per the vision of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, this year’s procession will also feature tableaux showcasing the state’s top tourist attractions:
