Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Phase of heavy rains has taken a halt in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Currently, there is no strong rain system in the state, which is why only a few districts have seen light showers over the past 4 days. 

However, heavy rainfall is expected on Sunday in 9 districts of the Gwalior, Chambal, and Sagar divisions. This weather pattern is likely to continue for the next two days.

A heavy rain alert has been issued for Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Shivpuri, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, and Chhatarpur on Sunday. These areas could receive up to 4.5 inches of rain in the next 24 hours.

What do meteorologists say?

Senior Meteorologists explained that a cyclonic circulation and trough are currently located in the northern part of the state, which is affecting the weather. Due to this system, northern Madhya Pradesh may see heavy rainfall for the next two days.

Earlier, light rain was recorded in districts like Tikamgarh, Guna, Narmadapuram, Nowgong (Chhatarpur), Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi, and Umaria. Tikamgarh received over half an inch of rain.

Rain records

So far, more than 28 inches of rain has been recorded in Madhya Pradesh this monsoon season.

Districts like Gwalior, Rajgarh, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Morena, and Sheopur have already received more rainfall than expected -- in some places, up to 50% more than normal. Tikamgarh and Niwari have received the highest rainfall, while Indore has received the least. The Ujjain division is also seeing low rainfall. Bhopal and Jabalpur have received only half of their seasonal average so far.

The monsoon arrived in the state on June 16. Since then, the state has received an average of 28 inches of rainfall, while the normal amount by now should have been around 17.6 inches. This means the state has received 10.5 inches more than expected. The average seasonal rainfall for Madhya Pradesh is 37 inches.

Weather in next 2 days

August 4: Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall is expected in Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Shivpuri, Datia, Niwari, Chhatarpur, and Tikamgarh. These areas may receive up to 4.5 inches of rain in the next 24 hours.

In other districts of the state, thunderstorms and light rain are expected.

August 5: Light Rain and thunderstorm alert has been issued for all districts in the state.
