Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The election campaigns in the cities stopped on Monday evening. Voting for the first phase of elections will be held on July 6 in 133 urban local bodies. They include 11 municipal corporations of Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Chhindwara, Ujjain, Sagar, Singrauli, Satna. Besides, 36 municipalities, 86 city councils will also go to polls on July 6.
As model code of conduct is in force, liquor shops will remain closed from Monday till voting gets over. Liquor sale stops 48 hours before voting.
Contestants continued electioneering till 5 pm on Monday wherein their political parties demonstrated full force. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan focused on Indore and organised a road show there while state Congress President Kamal Nath held a road show in Bhopal.
Elections are being held in a total of 347 bodies. Voting will be held in 133 bodies in the first phase and 214 in the second phase. In all, 19, 977 polling stations have been set up. In all, 87,937 employees have been engaged for poll duty. Elections will be conducted through EVMs. The voting time will be from 7 am to 5 pm.
