Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the district administration launched an anti-encroachment drive in the city’s green belt areas on Saturday. Acting on the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), around 25 illegal constructions were demolished at two locations as part of the first phase of the operation.
The action was carried out in front of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) and in the Manisha Market area of Shahpura. According to officials, the campaign targeted slums, sheds and even concrete houses that had encroached upon the designated green zones.
Encroachment in-charge Shailendra Singh Bhadoria said that 23 slum units were removed between MANIT Square and Harshvardhan Nagar. In Shahpura, a concrete house in Manisha Market was demolished using bulldozer machines.
Further action is scheduled for June 30 and July 1, focusing on the Ayodhya Bypass area, where numerous unauthorised constructions in the green belt have been identified. Officials said that prior notices have been issued for these demolitions as well.
Green move
BMC’s executive engineer Pramod Malviya said that the drive is being conducted in compliance with the NGT’s directive to remove over 692 identified encroachments across various parts of the city.In the first phase, 45 structures have been marked for removal, and notices have already been issued to the encroachers.
Malviya said that the civic body affirmed its commitment to restoring and preserving green belt areas across Bhopal, in line with environmental guidelines and NGT orders.
