Madhya Pradesh: Minister Govind Singh Orders Comprehensive Inspection Of All Petrol Pumps

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): After the embarrassing incident wherein 19 vehicles of CM’s cavalcade stopped abruptly in Ratlam district as their fuel, which was purchased from a local petrol pump, contained water, Food, Civil Supplies Minister Govind Singh Rajput ordered for a comprehensive inspection of all petrol pumps across the state on Saturday.

He said that quality petrol and diesel must be ensured for consumers under all circumstances. He asked senior officials to hold meetings with oil companies and take appropriate action.

Notably, vehicles in the CM cavalcade were refuelled from BPCL’s Shakti Petrol Pump at Dosigaon, Ratlam which supplied diesel containing water. An FIR was registered against the guilty pump operator under Section 377 of Essential Commodities Act, 1955, as per provisions of the Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel (Regulation of Supply and Distribution and Prevention of Malpractices) Order, 2005. The pump has been sealed and 5,995 litres of petrol and 10,657 litres of diesel were impounded.

Additional Chief Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, Rashmi Arun Shami convened a meeting with officials from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) on Friday over the incident.

She instructed BPCL to submit a detailed investigation report soon. Considering the ongoing monsoon season, oil companies have been directed to inspect all petrol pumps as per pre-defined checklist.

She instructed all Collectors to form joint inspection teams comprising of officials from the Food Department, Revenue Department, Weights and Measures and respective oil companies to inspect all petrol pumps in their districts.
