As Covid-19 cases rise again in several parts of India, including Maharashtra, Mumbai Indians (MI) owner Nita Ambani took a moment to remind her team about safety precautions after their big win over Delhi Capitals (DC) at Wankhede Stadium.

After MI defeated DC by 59 runs to secure a spot in the IPL playoffs, Nita Ambani was seen taking extra care by making sure players used hand sanitiser before celebrating. A picture of her pouring sanitiser into Jasprit Bumrah’s palm went viral on social media. She did the same with other players like leg-spinner Karn Sharma. Bumrah smiled and followed her instructions before joining in on the celebrations.

Even MI captain Hardik Pandya chose to avoid handshakes and instead fist-bumped the ground staff as a safer gesture. COVID-19 cases have recently gone up in states like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, with more than 250 active cases reported. Australian player Travis Head from Sunrisers Hyderabad even missed a match after testing positive, delaying his arrival in India.

Mumbai’s Big Win Secures Playoff Spot

In the match on Wednesday, Suryakumar Yadav led the charge with an unbeaten 73 runs, supported by a quick finish from Naman Dhir. MI scored 180 for 5 in their innings. Then, with a strong bowling performance, they bowled out Delhi Capitals for just 121 runs.

Mitchell Santner was excellent with the ball, taking 3 wickets for only 11 runs. Jasprit Bumrah also took 3 wickets to help seal the win.

With this win, Mumbai Indians now have 16 points and have qualified for the playoffs along with Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings. Delhi, even with one match left, can only reach 15 points, which is not enough to qualify.
