True to its reputation, Santissimo delivered a stunning performance to clinch the HPSL Indian 2000 Guineas, the marquee event on the fourth day of the Mumbai racing season, held at the iconic Mahalaxmi Racecourse on Sunday.
Santissimo set a new record surpassing the old record of 1:35.68 set by Trouvaille in the year 2019, clocking 1:35.41 seconds.
Priced at 1.30 odds by bookmakers, Pesi Shroff’s talented colt, Santissimo, emerged victorious, fending off a spirited challenge from dark horse Shambala, while the Tote favourite African Gold claimed the third spot in this much-anticipated feature race of the day.
Ridden masterfully by the accomplished Irish jockey Oisin Murphy, Santissimo maintained a composed yet determined pace, staying well within reach of early leader Shambala. The latter had taken charge as the frontrunner, with African Gold keeping close tabs on the tote favourite, Santissimo, as the six contenders navigated the racecourse.

However, with just 60 meters left to the finish line, Santissimo unleashed a burst of acceleration, overtaking Shambala in a thrilling display of power and precision. Guided expertly by Murphy, who secured his 321st career victory in a classic race, Santissimo crossed the line with a commanding finish, solidifying his place among the elite in the racing world.
The exhilarating victory was a testament to Santissimo's exceptional ability, Shroff's impeccable training, and Murphy's skillful riding, making it a race to remember for the enthusiastic crowd gathered at Mahalaxmi.
