Punters and racing enthusiasts will be eagerly eyeing Santissimo as the top contender for the prestigious HPSL Indian 2000 Guineas, the second Classic of the Mumbai racing calendar. This highly anticipated event is set to unfold on Sunday at the iconic Mahalaxmi Racecourse, promising a thrilling spectacle for all.

While Santissimo garners much of the spotlight, a deeper look at the competition reveals that African Gold, a standout performer in the Colts Championship Stakes, might just be the dark horse of the day. With an impeccable record of five consecutive wins in his last five assignments African Gold, this gelding has demonstrated consistent excellence. Competing in a race that boasts six formidable contenders, African Gold seems well-poised to shine in this marquee event, marking the fourth day of the Mumbai season.

Adding to the buzz is Santissimo, who will be piloted by the accomplished Irish jockey, Oisin Murphy. With six victories in his eight outings, this colt—trained by the legendary Pesi Shroff—remains a bookie’s favourite. Santissimo’s combination of speed, stamina, and tactical brilliance makes him a top bet for this high-stakes event.

Not to be overlooked is Psychic Star, the winner of the season Classic opener. As another strong contender, this champion has shown his mettle and is expected to put up a fierce fight. The race promises to be a battle of titans, with both Santissimo and Psychic Star vying for dominance.

But it has been witnessed favourites have failed to oblige in many of the Classics, and only time will tell us the end result.
