Indian seamer Akash Deep has opined that tailenders have a tricky job to do in a Test match as the tourists aim to bounce back in the second game at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The right-arm seamer believes there's either hardly anything left for bowlers to do when they come to bat or the proceedings are in a tricky spot.

Akash Deep was one of the bowlers who was seen batting in the nets after the tailenders flopped massively in the opening Test in Leeds. While England's tail wagged to add vital runs in their first innings, the visitors' collapsed in both innings despite the top-order batters doing an excellent job.

Speaking in a video uploaded by the BCCI, Akash Deep stated:

"Hamaari jis position pe batting aati hai, ya toh aap batsman ke saath batting kar rahe hote hain, ya match mein kuch bhi nahin bacha hota hai, ya match fansa hota hai. Main hamesha 20, 30, 40 run banane ka pressure apne upar daalta hoon." (The position at which we bat, you are either with a set batter, there is not much left in the innings or their innings is in a tricky spot. I always put myself under pressure to score 20-40 runs.)

Prasidh Krishna remarked:

"We need to make sure we know our roles when there's a batsman batting. We need to make sure we tell each other the right things, give one another the cue and make sure the session is fun instead of boring."

Akash Deep a strong contender to play at Edgbaston

Meanwhile, Akash Deep is a strong contender to feature in the XI at Edgbaston, with Jasprit Bumrah in serious doubt for the fixture. Bumrah had a considerably heavy workload in Leeds, sending down 44.4 overs.

Although the right-arm speedster took a fifer in the first innings, he went wicketless in the second as England chased down 371 for victory to take a 1-0 lead. As a result, Bumrah could be rested to make him available for the Lord's Test.
