Details of Diogo Jota’s funeral have been released following the devastating car crash that claimed the lives of the former Liverpool star and his brother, Andre, on Thursday, July 3rd. The fatal crash occurred on Thursday morning while Diogo and his brother were on a road trip from Portugal to Santander, Spain, where they were due to catch a ferry to Britain. Reports suggest the journey was planned by medical advice, as Diogo had recently undergone lung surgery and was advised against flying.

Speaking to CNN Portugal, Father Macedo shared that the brothers’ bodies will be brought to the chapel on Friday ahead of Saturday’s funeral. “We’re available to celebrate their lives with everyone and to share the pain and the Christian hope,” he said.

The accident happened on a remote stretch of the A-52 highway in the province of Zamora, an important route for travellers heading from northern Portugal to Spain’s ferry ports. Initial investigations by local authorities suggest the possibility of a blown tyre during an overtaking manoeuvre as a potential cause.
Diogo Jota, 28, had recently celebrated a milestone in his personal life. He married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso on June 22, just two weeks before the accident.
