KL Rahul missed out on a well-deserved half-century in the first innings
The Karnataka-born cricketer missed out on a well-deserved half-century in the first innings as Brydon Carse got him to nick at first slip where Joe Root took a good catch. However, his 42 had helped the tourists build a solid 91-run opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Team India eventually amassed 471 after centuries from Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.
In response, Ollie Pope was the only centurion for England, while Harry Brook fell agonisingly short of a triple-figure score, perishing for 99. Nevertheless, the home side's tail wagged, with Chris Woakes (38) and Brydon Carse (22) chipping in with useful contributions.
Carse and Ben Stokes were the wicket-takers for England on day three but showers meant that the the umpires had to call off the proceedings early.
