The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday carried out a massive encroachment drive against illegal establishments.

The drive was conducted along the Aundh-Baner link road, from Medipoint Chowk to Vidhate Vasti Chowk, as well as on the main Baner Road.

A total of 35 notices were served before the action, following which over 31,200 square feet of encroached land was cleared. The drive targeted unauthorised shops, hotels, tin sheds and permanent concrete structures constructed without civic approval.

Backed by a police team for security and law enforcement, the PMC deployed one JCB, a gas cutter and a ten-member encroachment staff to carry out the demolition.

PMC officials stated that the cleared area will now be used for public utility and road expansion purposes, ensuring smoother traffic flow and civic discipline in the rapidly growing Baner region.

"This action sends a clear message that unauthorised constructions will not be tolerated," said a senior PMC official, emphasising that similar operations will be intensified across other parts of the city.

The drive is part of a strategy by the PMC to crack down on encroachments and enforce planned urban development, especially in high-growth zones such as Baner, Aundh and Pashan.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of the Superintending Engineer and an Executive Engineer of Zone 3, with support from sub-engineers, junior engineers, and a team led by an Assistant Police Inspector.
