Palghar, Maharashtra: In a distressing turn of events following the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir, a group of 11 tourists from Vasai have alleged that low-cost carrier SpiceJet has failed to process their refund after their trip was forcefully cancelled due to security concerns.

11 Tourists from Vasai Left Without Refund

Marshall Corea of Friends Tours and Travels had organised a Kashmir tour scheduled for May 6, 2025. Flight tickets for 11 tourists were booked in advance through the travel company Fly On Fares on SpiceJet Flight SG-385 under two PNRs.

However, the trip was cancelled after the unexpected terror attack in Kashmir which triggered widespread fear and unrest, causing several tour operators to cancel scheduled group departures.

SpiceJet Blames Travel Agent, Agent Denies Refund

According to Corea, while many airlines and travel operators promptly refunded customers due to the force majeure circumstances, SpiceJet has allegedly failed to return the payments for these 11 tickets. When questioned, SpiceJet reportedly deflected responsibility to Fly On Fares, stating that the refund was to be processed through them. Conversely, Fly On Fares claims they have not received any refund from SpiceJet.

Other Passengers on Same Flight Got Refund

In a startling revelation, another set of three passengers booked on the same flight through a different company, Aireo Portal, owned by Jayaswal Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., received their refunds on June 11, 2025, clearly indicating that refunds were being processed for that flight in some cases.

No Response to Email, More Confusion Added

Despite repeated follow-ups, no resolution has been reached. In fact, a Nodal Officer from SpiceJet directed Corea to contact yet another company, Vishal Travels Pvt. Ltd., for refund-related concerns, without providing any contact information or clarification on this new entity’s involvement. An official email seeking clarification was sent to SpiceJet on July 25, but remains unanswered.

Tour Operators Call It Negligence, Not Miscommunication

Tour operators and travellers alike are calling this not just mismanagement, but outright negligence. Corea points out that the sudden violence in Kashmir had serious financial implications for small travel agencies, many of whom bore the brunt of mass cancellations.

“Instead of offering support, SpiceJet and its intermediaries are engaged in a blame game, causing unnecessary stress and financial loss to the travellers,” said Corea. “Even the government encourages compassion and proactive support in such situations, so why this apathy?”

The affected tourists and Friends Tours and Travels are now urging SpiceJet to urgently resolve the matter, issue pending refunds, and ensure such lapses do not repeat in future.
