Mumbai: The weather department has issued a warning for an increase in thunderstorm activity in Maharashtra from Tuesday, August 5 to Saturday, August 9. “Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, gusty winds and moderate to heavy rainfall are very likely to occur over parts of Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan,” the alert says.
Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg to See Intense Activity
As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) district weather forecast, in the Konkan region, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are more likely to witness thunderstorms. The effect of the change in the weather system will be less for Mumbai and its metropolitan regions.
Mumbai Weather to Remain Cloudy with Light Rain
As per IMD’s local weather forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 48 hours, the skies will be generally cloudy with light spells of rain/thundershowers towards evening/night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degrees C and 27 degrees C.
August Rainfall May Be Below Normal, September Revival Expected
IMD’s outlook for the second half of the southwest monsoon (August-September) indicates that Mumbai and Maharashtra are expected to receive below-normal to normal rainfall in August, with a revival of above-normal rainfall anticipated in September. For the overall monsoon 2025, the weather department has already forecasted above-average rainfall.
