Palghar News: Rapido Driver Steals Family’s Jewellery And Cash Worth ₹6.29 Lakh During Religious Trip, Arrested | Representative Image

Palghar, Maharashtra: A Rapido cab driver has been arrested by Naigaon Police for allegedly stealing gold and silver jewelry, along with cash, from a family traveling from Nalasopara to Kalyan. The valuables are estimated to be worth over ₹6.29 lakh. The accused, identified as Sandesh Topare, was apprehended within hours of the complaint being filed. While police have recovered some of the stolen items from his possession, efforts are underway to retrieve the remaining valuables.

Timeline Of The Robbery

The incident occurred on the morning of August 4, when the complainant, Upasana Chavan, her mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and husband Dipesh Chavan booked a Rapido cab to travel to a religious function in Kalyan. The group made a brief stop near Bhajanlal Dairy in Vasai East. As the women stepped out to buy sweets, the driver allegedly seized the opportunity and drove off with their bags, which contained the family's valuables and personal documents.

Relaistion by The Family Of Robbery

Following the religious function, the family immediately reported the theft to the Naigaon Police. The police acted swiftly, with a team led by Senior Police Inspector Vijay Kadam launching a manhunt. Using technical surveillance and vehicle tracking, the police were able to trace and arrest the accused driver.

Valuables Worth ₹6.29 Lakh Stolen

The police team is continuing its efforts to recover all the stolen items, which included a variety of gold and silver jewelry and cash. The total estimated loss was ₹6,29,306. Topare has been remanded in custody as police continue to interrogate him for potential involvement in similar thefts.
