Barwani (Madhya Pradesh): A penalty of Rs 2 lakh was imposed on Mount Litera School, Merkhedi by the collector for discriminating against tribal children admitted under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
Recent reports highlighted that the school was not teaching these children alongside their peers, conducting classes at different times, and seating them separately.
In response to these allegations, a five-member investigation team, including officials from the district education centre and naib tehsildar Niwali, was formed. Additionally, a three-member team led by the SDM inspected the school and local shops selling textbooks and uniforms. The investigation confirmed the reports of discrimination.

Following the findings, Zila Panchayat CEO Kajal Jawala issued a show cause notice to the school operator, requiring a response within a week. The operator submitted a reply on July 31, but it did not adequately address the issues raised.
As a result, the collector imposed the fine under Rule 10 (2) of the Madhya Pradesh Private School Bill 2017.
The school must pay the penalty within 15 days and provide a receipt to the district education officer. Failure to comply will result in legal action, and the school administration has also been asked to submit an affidavit ensuring that such discrimination will not occur again.
