Mumbai News: SRA Beneficiaries Seek Extension Of Amnesty Scheme As August Deadline Nears

As the state’s One-Time Amnesty Scheme approaches its August deadline, several slum housing societies across Mumbai have urged the government to extend the scheme by 6 to 12 months, citing unfinished projects and legal documentation hurdles.

A Lifeline for Occupants in Delayed SRA Projects

The scheme allows regularisation of tenement transfers in cases where Annexure-IIthe document confirming slum dweller eligibility was issued before 2010. Many original occupants have since died or sold their units, making re-verification necessary.

Golphadevi Society in Worli Highlights Ground Realities

Advocate Sharad Koli, Chairman of the Golphadevi SRA Co-operative Housing Society, noted that nearly 40% of the 642 tenements in their project now require regularisation due to delays since their LOI in 2011. The project has been pending since 2006.

Legal Heirs and Buyers Left Without Voting Rights

Koli emphasized that due to outdated records, many legal heirs and buyers lack voting rights and legal status within the societies, even though they’ve lived in the tenements for years.

Procedural Delays and Low Awareness Hindering Participation

Residents claim that lack of awareness, documentation delays, and complex SRA procedures have prevented many genuine cases from availing the scheme before the deadline.

SRA CEO Aseem Gupta Orders Reverification, But Time Is Short

According to society representatives, SRA CEO Aseem Gupta (IAS) has directed that Annexure-II documents be reverified in legacy cases. However, societies argue that the timeframe is insufficient to complete due processes.
