Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 35-year-old woman suffered serious burns after three men allegedly poured boiling oil on her during a violent altercation in Anna Nagar on Sunday night.
The woman, identified as Kranti Prajapati, was admitted to Hamidia Hospital in a critical condition, said Govindpura police here on Monday.
According to the police, the incident occurred when Kranti intervened in a fight between her son and her neighbours Kamlesh Prajapati and his 17-year-old brother. The dispute, reportedly rooted in an old enmity over alleged encroachment outside a tea and snacks shop, quickly escalated.
Govindpura police station in-charge Awadhesh Singh Tomar said the accused threw a vessel full of hot oil on Kranti when she tried to shield her son. One of the accused has been arrested and sent to jail, while the others are absconding.
The victim’s son claimed the accused came with the intent to kill him. The attackers are said to be close relatives of the family.
Locals suspect the woman’s son had complained to the municipal corporation about illegal encroachments, which were recently demolished, further fuelling tension.
Police confirmed past disputes between the two families. The investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
