Mumbai: The police have launched a probe against a man allegedly involved in preparing bogus government documents.
The racket came to light after a woman approached the police about receiving a fake birth certificate for her father. The 26-year-old complainant is a resident of Kherwadi in Bandra (East) and works as a sales manager in a finance company.
She wanted to send her parents on a pilgrimage abroad and wanted their passports made. She learnt from a friend about a Palghar-based man who could get government documents online. She established contact with him and shared her father’s Aadhaar and PAN cards, paying the fee online.
In January, she and her father visited Kherwadi police station to complete the police verification process but was told that the birth certificate was fake, following which she approached the police.
