Gondia: Officials at Kornighat Bagh River in Gondia taluka conducted a flood management drill in the region, helping residents with search and rescue efforts during potential flooding situations. The exercise was demonstrated using various tools to highlight the practice. The rescue team implemented prompt actions to protect people in crisis like situations. Trainings and workshops are being arranged throughout the district under the supervision of District Collector Prajit Nair.
The practice exercise occurred on the Bagh River in Gondia, recognized for traversing the district's eastern section and merging with the Wainganga River. It serves as an important water source for irrigation and various uses, with the Sirpur Dam situated close to Deori forming a reservoir that supports water delivery. There have also been unfortunate events, like the drowning of three women during a ceremony at Korni Ghat.
The mock drill follows the drowning of three women from the Turkar family while bathing in the Bagh River on June 8. Meenakshi Santosh Baghel (39), Neetu Shatrudhan Baghel (35), and Mirabai Ishulal Turkar (50), who live in Nagpur, were performing pindadaan at Korni Ghat. The event happened when Neetu lost her footing, causing Meenakshi and Mirabai to try to save her, leading to all three drowning. There is no established connection between the mock drill and the tragic event that occurred on June 8.
