Indore (Madhya Pradesh): COVID-19 cases continued to trickle in for the sixth straight day in Indore, with two more cases reported on Thursday. The new infections bring the total number of cases in the last six days to 13, including 10 from Indore and three linked to other districts.
According to health department officials, latest patients include a 48-year-old man who recently returned from Kolkata and a 79-year-old city resident who had attended a social gathering. Both are experiencing mild symptoms and are currently under home isolation. Their samples were tested at private diagnostic labs, and contact tracing is underway.
Health officials said that testing is currently limited to symptomatic persons. However, concerns remain over delays in genome sequencing results. Samples, including one from a 74-year-old woman who died in April, were sent to AIIMS Bhopal, but the reports are still pending. Indore, despite having the equipment, lacks an operational in-house genome sequencing facility at MGM Medical College.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr BS Saitya said that the situation remains under control and all patients are stable. “We are awaiting genome sequencing results to better understand the variant. Both patients are recovering well at home,” he said.
Most recent cases have been asymptomatic or found during routine health screenings. Officials said that there is no indication of a sharp rise or cluster outbreak as of now.
Collector Asheesh Singh assured citizens that the administration is closely monitoring the situation. “There is no indication of a surge, and there is no cause for alarm at this stage,” he said.
