Madhya Pradesh: Protest Outside Nanpur Police Station After Quack's Injection Kills Man

Alirajpur (Madhya Pradesh): A protest was held by villagers who brought a dead body to Nanpur police station on Sunday at 9:30 am after a youth died due to injection given by a quack running an illegal clinic.

Jeram Baghel (35) from Begdi Patel Falia of Nanpur in Alirajpur district died after getting an injection from quack Bittu. Jeram had chest pain and was first taken to Nanpur hospital but no one was found there.

His family then took him to the quack who gave him an injection. His condition worsened after the injection and he died.

The angry villagers demanded action and also brought the quack with them. Deceased brother Sukhram said Jeram's condition got worse after the injection. The SDOP also reached the spot and an FIR was registered against the quack who runs the illegal clinic.

After the incident, CMHO Dr Devendra Sunhare took action and transferred Nanpur Medical Officer Dr Babita Nandulkar to Community Health Centre, Bakhtgarh, Development Block Sondwa on the same day.

On instructions of Collector Abhay Arvind Bedekar, Jobat SDM Arth Jain with a joint team took action against illegal clinics run by quacks. Block Health Officer Vijay Baghel said they raided clinics and checked degrees of operators and medicines being used. Two illegal clinics were found and sealed. Medicines and health materials were also seized.

However, in Chhakatla of Alirajpur district, illegal clinics opened again. From Sunday morning till 4:00 pm, quacks were seen treating poor tribal people in Chhakatla. People have raised questions on the administration's action. A few days ago, SDM Goswami had taken strict action against illegal quack clinics in Chhakatla and got them closed.

But now four to five illegal clinics have opened again in the town, which can cause big accidents. When asked, SDM CG Goswami said he had told BMO to check clinic operators’ degrees and register cases. If clinics reopen, he will discuss with BMO and give instructions. These quacks treat patients without any degree and experience, which puts their lives at serious risk, the protesters said.
