Indore: Lokayukta Nabs West Discom Junior Engineer Accepting Bribe

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Lokayukta Special Establishment Police, Indore caught a junior engineer of West Discom red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for providing a power connection, an official said on Thursday.
The complainant had applied to West Discom for a 10-kilowatt electricity connection for his godown, for which the junior engineer had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000.
According to SP Lokayukta Rajesh Sahay, one Suryakant Sonone, a resident of Panchmurti Nagar, Rajmohalla, lodged a complaint at the Lokayukta office stating that he owns a godown in Naliya Bakhal and needed a 10-kilowatt electricity connection to run a steam machine business.
The junior engineer allegedly asked him to deposit Rs 40,000 as government charges and demanded an additional Rs 10,000 as a bribe.
The complaint was thoroughly verified by the authorities, after which a special trap team was formed to take action. Acting on the plan, the team caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant. Following the incident, a formal case has been registered against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Officials have confirmed that further investigation is currently underway to gather more evidence and determine the full extent of the offence.
