Indore (Madhya Pradesh): For the first time in its history, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) is gearing up to welcome international students with a luxury hostel designed to global standards—marking a bold step in campus transformation.
The new facility will replace the ageing Bapna Hostel on AB Road, and feature studio apartments equipped with central air conditioning, personal pantries, and attached washrooms. DAVV officials say the initiative is aimed at giving international students a comfortable and dignified residential experience—one that reflects the university’s growing global ambition.
“With the funds received under the PM-USHA scheme, we are creating spaces that match international standards—both in education and living,” said vice chancellor Rakesh Singhai.
Rs 20 crore grant to revives campus infrastructure
After a 12-year gap, the university has received Rs 20 crore from the Central government under the PM-USHA (University Grants Commission) scheme for a major infrastructure overhaul. The funds are being directed towards both new construction and renovation projects across the campus.
Of the total grant, Rs 14 crore is earmarked for fresh construction, including:
A new academic block for the School of Data Science and Forecasting (Rs5.4 crore)
An advanced research centre for the School of Instrumentation (Rs9.6 crore)
A new IT Centre (Rs2.8 crore)
These facilities will span 5,000 square meters, behind the current Data Science building on Takshashila Campus.
“This is a crucial step in strengthening our academic and research capabilities,” said Singhai. “The new infrastructure will make DAVV future-ready.”
Focus on student facilities and accessibility
The university is also set to invest in upgrading student amenities across its campuses:
Rs 2 crore for renovating existing boys’ and girls’ hostels
Rs 40 lakh for constructing new washrooms in the UTD block
Rs 8 lakh for RO water systems
Rs 46 lakh for building disabled-friendly toilets in every university building
Construction begins soon
The MP Building Development Corporation has been appointed as the executing agency, and work is expected to start shortly, confirmed Registrar Prajwal Khare, who took charge on Monday.
This is DAVV’s first major infrastructure push since the School of Commerce building was inaugurated in 2013. Although the university had initially requested Rs 100 crore under the scheme, it has chosen to maximise the Rs 20 crore grant now allocated to enhance both academic facilities and student life.
