Ashoknagar (Madhya Pradesh): After a two-day halt due to continuous rainfall, urea distribution resumed in Ashoknagar on Friday.

The distribution attracted a massive crowd of farmers to the fertilizer warehouse on Vidisha Road.

The sudden rush of vehicles caused a traffic jam in the area while both men and women rushed through the gates as soon as distribution began.

Distribution was done in priority to those who already had tokens. But the increasing crowd led to chaos with some frustrated farmers staging a protest by sitting on the road. Police and administrative officials immediately arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

Farmers demanded advance tokens to avoid future inconvenience. Responding to the demand, officials distributed tokens to all present and covered the schedule until August 12.

The crowd which had gathered for over four hours was dispersed after the distribution of tokens.

Deputy Director of Agriculture informed that 5,500 metric tons of urea are currently available in the district and will be distributed by Monday. If any stock remains, it will be distributed on Tuesday.

He noted a rise in urea demand this year due to increased maize sowing - 25,000 metric tons have been distributed so far, compared to 15,000 metric tons by the same time last year.

He assured farmers that supply will be done as per requirement and urged them not to stock urea for the Rabi season before time. Further fertilizer batch will be distributed upon arrival.
