Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a significant drop in temperatures in the year of 2024 as compared to the previous year. The night temperatures have dropped below 10 degrees Celsius in many districts. The days, on the other hand, are 20°C - 25°C warm in the big cities.
The decrease in the temperature is caused due to the northern winds. In the eastern regions, temperatures have dropped to as low as 4.5 degrees Celsius.
Northern winds to impact state
According to meteorologist Pramendra Kumar, “A western disturbance may become active in the next 2 to 3 days over northwest India. This will accelerate icy winds, which will also impact Madhya Pradesh."
The Western Disturbances are also supposed to intensify the cold in the first week of December as it is snowing in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh at present, increasing the speed of the jet stream winds.
Chilly nights expected in month end
The Meteorological Department says, the nighttime temperature in Bhopal has remained below 10 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday-Wednesday night, the temperature was recorded at 9.2 degrees. Pachmarhi remains the coldest, with the mercury dropping to 5.6 degrees due to it being a hill station.
On Wednesday, Narsinghpur recorded the steepest temperature drop. Meanwhile, in 10 cities, including Bhopal and Jabalpur, nighttime temperatures are below 10 degrees. This cold spell is expected to continue for the next three days. Severe winter conditions are anticipated to begin in December.
