Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Women and Child Development Department (WCDD) looks confused about the number of parentless children in the state.

There were two different replies to a question raised by legislator Dileep Singh Parihar over the number of children without parents.

When Parihar wanted to know the number of registered children in foster care, WCDD minister Nirmala Bhuria said there were 349 such children in the state.

22 district with no children without parents

According to the information provided by the minister, there are 22 such districts where no such children have been registered. About the sponsorship scheme, Bhuria said 47, 981 were children eligible for benefits.

Difference between registered children & beneficiaries

The scheme was launched for the children who had lost their parents during the Covid-19 pandemic. The minister further said 61,703 children had applied for benefits under the scheme.

But there is a major difference between the number of beneficiaries under the sponsorship scheme and that of the registered children in the portal of Baal Dekh Rekh Sanstha run by the central government in the district.
