Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): The interest of girls in shooting here has increased after four women shooters from Jabalpur won 37 medals at the international level.
Many girls are taking training in shooting at the summer training camp organised by the Central Sports and Arts Council of MP Power Management Company Limited at Mashal Complex.
Along with ten boys, five girls aged 10 to 16 are receiving training in open-sight air rifle shooting at the camp.
Rajiv Gupta, general secretary of the Central Sports and Arts Council, informed that this is the second time intensive shooting training is being provided under the summer sports training camp in Jabalpur.
The training camp is providing 10-meter shooting training with open-sight air rifles. The 10-meter shooting event is considered a very popular event at national and international levels.
The girls participating in the training camp say that they want to make a career in shooting by receiving systematic training. They feel that shooting offers a better career than other sports.
The girls believe that there are more opportunities to advance in individual sports compared to team sports.
One participating girl says that holding a rifle during training also gives her a feeling of empowerment.
