The humidity is expected to be around 72 per cent and the wind is expected to blow steadily from the Southwest at 18 km/h.
Rainfall is predicted in Tamil Nadu
The sudden rainfall on Monday gave residents respite from the heatwave. According to the weather department, Tamil Nadu's capital will see rainfall till May 25, 2025. The Regional Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rainfall at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal.
These places will also experience thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. The temperatures are also likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius. The rainfall is likely due to a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman Sea.
IMD has issued a yellow alert
The weather department has issued a yellow alert in numerous regions of Tamil Nadu, including Tiruvallur, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Coimbatore, and Thirunelveli, among others.
When is the monsoon expected in Chennai?
The monsoon is expected to arrive in Chennai between June 1 and June 5, 2025. This means that Chennai can expect the first rains of the Southwest monsoon around that time.

IMD issued an advisory
The IMD has said that due to the influence of cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal, Chennai is experiencing rainfall. The weather department said that squally wind is likely to blow at a speed of 55 kmph over the South Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and the adjoining Comoroan area. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised fishermen to avoid venturing near the sea.
