Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a major breakthrough in its anti-narcotics drive, the Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested two foreign nationals, a Nigerian man and a Thai woman, linked to a trans-national drug syndicate that operated through online platforms.
The arrests have also revealed the international connection of DJ Yaseen, who is suspected to be a key link between international suppliers and local drug peddlers.
Additional DCP Shailendra Singh Chauhan said the arrested foreign nationals were identified as Orachor Onyeka, a 34-year-old Nigerian national, previously booked in Delhi under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468 (forgery), and the Foreigners Act.
The woman from Thailand, Benchamat Moon (41), was arrested from her flat in Sheetal Dham Apartment on Hoshangabad Road. Benchamat lived in Bhopal and Delhi and allegedly operated an online MDMA distribution network while working at local spa centres. She was found in possession of 2.95 grams of MDMA or MD Drugs, Chauhan added.
Benchamat confessed to purchasing drugs directly from Orachor Onyeka, establishing the international links of the syndicate, police officials said.
The investigation revealed that Yaseen alias Mintu had direct or indirect connections with both foreign and local drug suppliers. He was arrested on July 22 with 1.05 grams of MD, a pistol and a Mahindra Scorpio SUV. The syndicate allegedly used online platforms, clubs and spa centres to distribute drugs across the city.
Yaseen on police remand
Arera Hills police have taken Yaseen on police remand to question him in connection with the Vidhan Sabha vehicle pass found on his SUV during his arrest. A case was registered in this connection on the complaint of a media person Gaurav Sharma whose vehicle pass Yaseen allegedly used.
11 arrested in the drug syndicate case
Police have arrested 11 people linked to Yaseen’s drug syndicate so far. Earlier in February, Sameeruddin and Sohail Khan were caught selling MD powder in the Shyamla Hills area. On their confession, police arrested Saifuddin with 8.37 g MD and Ashu alias Shahrukh with 6.76 g MD.
On their information, DJ Yaseen and his uncle Shahwar were arrested on July 22 with MD drugs.
Others who were arrested include Jagjeet Singh alias Jagga, nabbed with a country made pistol he purchased from Yaseen, Anshul alias Bhuri and Taufeeq Nizami (arrested with a pistol), Orachor Onyeka, a 34-year-old Nigerian national and Thai woman Benchamat Moon.
Probe on into online drug trade
The arrest of the Thai woman has revealed the online sale of MD drugs, including through messaging platforms and other communication apps. Police suspect these platforms were used to coordinate deals and discreet deliveries, especially targeting youths. The police are now probing deeper into digital evidence, mobile data and financial transactions to unearth the full extent of the international supply chain connected to DJ Yaseen and his network. More arrests are expected in the coming days.
Spa connection
Benchamat Moon previously worked at multiple spa centres in Bhopal. Police suspect these spas were being used as fronts for drug distribution. Her links to online drug supply networks are also under investigation.
