Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The State Excise Department raided a house and recovered fake labels of liquor bottles, an officer said on Tuesday.
The house owner was missing during the raid. He is being searched to know about other people involved in supplying illicit liquor in the city. On the instructions of Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari, a special team seized thousands of fake labels used on country liquor bottles.
These labels looked exactly like real ones and were difficult to identify as fake. The excise officials raided an area near Hotel Bundelkhand in Scheme No 114. There, they found fake liquor labels hidden among household items belonging to one Shailendra.
It was believed that these labels were meant for use on small country liquor bottles and the suspect was involved in supplying illicit liquor using labels on the bottles.
The raid was based on secret information received by the department. In the supervision of Excise Controller Devesh Chaturvedi, Flying Squad In-charge Preeti Chaubey and Deputy Controller Manoj Agrawal, the team of Sub-Inspectors Mahesh Patel and Sunil Malviya played a key role in raiding the house and recover fake liquor labels from there.
Officials believe that this is not the work of a single person but part of an organised racket. A detailed investigation is underway to trace everyone involved in the network.
Assistant Excise Commissioner Tiwari said that the operation shows the department’s strong commitment to protect public health and safety. Crackdown on such illegal activities will continue.
Information is being gathered about house owner Shailendra and other people involved in the crime.
