Islamabad: Pakistan's Defence Minister again hit headlines with a shocking revelation, accusing the nation's top bureaucracy of corruption. The Pakistan Defence Minister alleged that billions of dollars in illegal wealth have been sent out of the country to Portugal.

Asif claimed that many Pakistani bureaucrats are seeking citizenship in the European nation. In his X post, the Pakistan Defence said that over half of Pakistan’s bureaucratic elite have purchased property in Portugal using what he called “black money", reported News18.

The Pakistani Defence Minister further added that politicians in the country are not treated fairly, "Politicians only get what is left over by them (bureaucrats) and still get blamed for everything," he said, as quoted by the media house.

He is of the opinion that most of the politicians do not have plots or foreign citizenship, as they have to contest polls. He termed the actions of these "corrupt" bureaucrats “shameful". "This bureaucracy is polluting our land," Asif said.

Top Indian intelligence sources reacted to Asif's allegations. This was a “classic case of elite asset laundering under diplomatic immunity," the intelligence sources told News18.

Khawaja Asif's Controversial Statements:

For the unversed, Asif is known for making controversial statements. In April this year, Asif admitted that Pakistan had supported terror activities for decades. During an interview with UK-based Sky News, Asif said that Pakistan does not have an unimpeachable track record as it had supported terror groups for the West, including the United States and Britain.

Later in June, Asif admitted that it has a "hybrid" regime, instead of an ideal democratic country. During an interview with Arab News, Asif also stated that if the hybrid model of governance had been adopted in the 90s, it could have yielded much better results.

"This is a hybrid model. It's not an ideal democratic government, you know, it's a hybrid. In the past, when the establishment used to operate from behind the scenes, and they definitely wielded a lot of power over the decade," the Pakistan Defence Minister said.
