A man was seen riding a horse in dangerous flood waters to save other horses stranded in the racetracks of the Ruidoso Downs. Severe flash flooding was recorded in Ruidoso, New Mexico, during the evening of July 8. The flash floods caused multiple horse riders and horses to switch their places, reportedly the racetracks were washed out due to the flash floods. In the viral video, a horse rider can be seen crossing a tide of flash floods in order to save other horses trapped on the other side of the race tracks.
Social media videos from the area showed several loose horses in the flood waters, and later videos showed grooms leading horses through receding water to higher ground. Reports suggest that at least three people in the town of Ruidoso died as a result of the flooding.
Brave Gesture From A Horse Rider:
In one of the many videos from the flood sight, a brave horse rider was seen riding his horse in the dangerous flash floods. He crossed the river of flood water on the race track to free the other horses trapped in the stable on the opposite side. The video was reshared on X by @newstodayyt1, the caption of the video reads, "Locals capture insane footage of man riding a horse in dangerous flood waters to free other horses. This was at a quarter horse race track in New Mexico. The river was flowing through the race grounds. The horses in the stables belonged to owners who raced them at the track."

Ruidoso was in the midst of a Quarter Horse race meet, and was preparing to host a pair of Grade 1 races for 3-year-olds on Saturday. The 2025 meet at Ruidoso has been cancelled.
